no they didn't provide me with contact info. my last post was an exact copy-paste of their reply to my email. it's almost as if they didn't want me asking these questions. it seems shady to me.

Hey guys!! I've been here for about 2 weeks and besides the heat, I really love it. It is definitely a new school and there are some kinks that need to be worked out, but they have a curriculum writer here who is really helping and the director is definitely open for change and new ideas. If you have any specific questions, let me know!

The company hired a curriculum designer (still not a professional btw) a year after the school opened...and after six months of telling the teachers that theyre hiring somebody for that (and who is still working on itwhich means its a far ways off from being completed.)

I already talked about this company under the heading Educaz. My experience is that the director has never been open to changes or new ideas - perhaps hes more open now that so many teachers have been fired or have quit in utter disgust due to the lack of changes being made in the school. I also must warn that the American owners are no better than the Mexican director. Again, I wouldnt recommend working here to anyone - Id recommend a job with less money but with more opportunity and less headaches.

hmmm.... I see a bunch of people posting on this that have about 5 posts or so... Makes me wonder... I am not saying that they are not who they say they are, but it seems strange.

Look, use some common sense. If a school can't give you decent answers via email, why even waste your time considering them as a potential employer? Just move on. People seem to be so afraid of coming to Mexico without a job, any job, even a low paying, long hours, short on info kinda job offer first. Why? I came here with no Spanish, no TEFL (I took mine in Chiapas my first month) and I've done just fine. Remember that being an expat English teacher is something of an adventure to begin with, so just go with that in mind and if a job isn't working out, bail out on them. Contracts are a joke here to begin with. Don't worry so much. Work visa... just work under the table.

Look, if you are the kinda person that waits at every red light before you walk across and you think that you gotta obey every single law, all of the time and just thinking about paying bribes makes you sick, don't even bother coming to Mexico. Just stay home. You will go crazy here.

Yeah, if every teacher and school here had a proper work visa and paid taxes the government would freak out at so many gringos and whatnot teaching here. There seems to be at least several teachers working under the table for every one that has a FM-3.

Hey all,

I'm currently in the process of interviewing with Shaun for a position with this school. So far, there is only one person on this thread (nan) that has confirmed that this place actually exists. If anyone could tell me anything about this school, I'd really appreciate it. Right now there's just a bunch of speculation.

PLEASE, SOMEONE SHARE WHAT YOU KNOW!!

If you get this, and you have info and are down to talk, just give me your actual email address so we don't have to communicate through the cafe.

Cheers,
Joe

Hello.

I am pretty sure this is a real school. That doesn't seem to be in doubt. But you have to ask questions, feel them out, and see what you come up with. Do they pay OK? Do they pay on time? How do they treat teachers?

My personal advice is this: Come to Mexico with enough cash to make it at least 1-2 months and enough to get home again if things don't work out. If you live in the States or that other country way up north (Canada), that should be about $2,000-$3,000. Yeah, people have come with less, but it's not a good idea. With at least a few grand in the bank you have enough to rent a place, look for work and not feel too pressured. If you don't like the local, you can just hop on a bus to another city.

Never give your passport to anybody, not for "safe keeping" or to even get a work visa (FM-3) unless you are sure you want to stay.

For your first six months you would do OK just to be here on a tourist visa and work for cash, many if not most ESL teachers in Mexico started out that way. If you like it here and you find a good school that will sponsor you, then you can go for the FM-3.
