Recently I saw a documetary on privacy issues and the issue of the UAE screening at airports were one of the topics.

I guess they are scanning people's eyes now?! I just was in the UAE a couple months back and they did not do this to me. Anyone know of this new procedure?

I entered the U.A.E. five years ago and got a retinal scan. How'd you get missed!

They only do the retinal scan if you are going to become a resident. If you came without a visa (ie: British passport etc. ) and as a tourist then they do not do the scan on you.

Not true Audi321. I came in on my passport without a visa and had a retinal scan the last time.

In that case, it is totally random and if they can be bothered. I came in 6 months ago to Dubai and they did not do it on me. Maybe only Abu Dhabi do it? Well just like a lot of things in the UAE, it really depends on the mood of the person serving you.

Hi VS. I really haven't been avoiding! There's just not much to say or complain about. All is great at UAEU. Last year's admin shake-up turned out to be a good thing. Our campus is running smoother than ever with the new blood. Original plans to retire in January '10 and return home have been put on hold Very Happy . Let them scan my retinas all they want!

Glad to hear it. If only it were more common... but then it would get very quiet and dull here. Laughing It sounds like you are getting into 'just one more contract' mode. I have friends who have been saying that for the last 3 or 4 contracts.
