Will this get somebody a work visa in Vietnam ?

If you mean Work Permit, not as an EFL teacher. The Vietnamese Government is quite strict on Uni degrees being a Bachelor's Degree, and that fact being expressly shown on the degree itself.

Man, that's lame -- these backpackers have really cramped my style if the Viet law has gotten to that point.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't risk it, but how often to people do the whole, work on non work permit thing over there ?

It just seems like so many ESL teachers work there -- both qualified and unqualified.

I think it will get you a work permit. I think the requirement is a uni degree or 5 years' pre Vietnam work experience in a similar field to the one you will be working in in Vietnam.

Am unsure of latest regs. however, so maybe someone can confirm my thought above.

I think there are two reason for this, but I'm not sure. There are more people here now coming to teach. At the same time, by coincidence or because of more people teaching, the folks in charge are asking for work permits. The bar is being raised. Good luck.
