After being warned away from the Gulf (as a young, single straight fellow interested in language and culture), I've been considering Egypt.

I (will) have an MA in Philosophy (of logic and language) and a few years' teaching experience. Is it possible to find a job in a private language institute (teaching adults, not kids) with these qualifications, or ought I to take a CELTA course?

Many thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott,

Egypt is a great place for fun, language and culture (and scuba diving!). There are a variety of jobs available, but with a CELTA, you'll have more and better options. You can do the CELTA in Cairo ([email protected]) probably cheaper than anywhere else in the world and they use the same trainers as in London and other big cities, so it's just as good.
In Cairo, there are jobs available for un-certified teachers - in Secondary schools (I hope you like kids!) and the Cowboy language institutes. The Secondary schools pay well, the cowboy schools don't. The best places to work are the recognised language institutes - IH, British Council, AUC but you'll need a CELTA. Hope this helps.
