Hiya
I'm waiting (a looooooong time) to get a visa to move to Australia. I've been told that it 'could' be 6-8 months.
As a former EFL teacher with CELTA and PGCE, I figured I'd get out of the hole that is the UK and go to Asia to teach. I've travelled through SE Asia a fair bit, but not Indonesia and I'm really keen to work there.
However, what are the implications of leaving a contract early i.e after 5 months or so? It's not something I've ever done, nor usually would do. BUT if and when I get that Aus visa I'm going to head over.
I'd appreciate people's thoughts on this.
Thanks |

Aussie Visa... they telll you 3 - 6 months for a migrant visa, but we got ours (for my husband) in 3 weeks and another person I knew who submitted their application just before us, took 3 weeks also. The Australian Immigration are rolling them out at the moment... !!
Btw .. I was just reading in your other post on a different thread... once you are granted the visa you usually have more than just a couple of months to "enter the country" our visa was issued in April, but we have until March 2010 to enter Australia.

tanya, you are lucky Kevin Rudd is in the Lodge as the doors are rolling open. But the stench of Howard remains as your husband will have to wait 2 years for any government assistance no matter what your circumstances. Hope he gets work and settles in pretty quickly. |

3 weeks!! Bless ya, that's funny! Already taken me 5 months since application luvvie and the cost is at 3000 (so far!). Let's take it that you're not up on your visas, being as there are 100+ the Aus govt has to trawl through before finding the appropriate one for you to apply for.
Technically I will have '12 months' to start the visa, but again there's small print that you won't be aware of, largely that the state I am applying to live in will be a temporary stop.....it's a complicated visa issue and I won't bore anyone with it, it's tedious enough for me. Suffice it to say that if that visa gets offered I will have to go with perhaps a couple of months notice. |
