I have a few questions regarding an advertisement I saw:

1) Is 2800 euros/month enough to live on in Barcelona? Will it cover both me and my spouse? We have a very simple lifestyle.

2) The school is offering work visa assistance. I'm American - how long does it take to get a work visa? Do I need to start the process from the States or after I get there (assuming I'm hired)?

Thanks!

Hi Writer. It sounds like a scam - the pay is too good and it's very difficult for non-EU passport holders to get work visas for the EU. There have been a few recent threads on this, eg:

If that 2800 euros/month is a pay offer, I'd say it's definitely a scam.

It ought to be enough to live on comfortably in BCN (though rent is at least 750+ euros a month for an appartment...) but no normal language school is offering that sort of salary.

Also, very few --if any-- schools will go to the trouble of helping you with a visa.

If it was Wall Street Institute, I jumped at it, but when the email came back, I wrote to the company and asked about the posting. Indeed, it was bogus. Here is the reply they sent me:

Hi ______,

This is not a legitimate posting. This has recently been brought to our attention, and we are preparing an announcement for our corporate website notifying people of the scam. Wall Street Institute does not have any centers in Barcelona . Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Best Regards,

Valerie Kirk
