I have 3 interests that influence this difficult decision that I need more info about: Money, Aikido and Chinese Medicine.
Oh, and free time.
I found that alot of teaching jobs in shanghai pay about 10-12 thousand RMB a month if you have some experience and a degree, which i do. So it should be possible to save a fair bit in Shanghai, no? But most people recommend Taiwan as a place for saving and not Shanghai. Is this just because Taiwan is a more well known 'saving destination' than Shanghai?
I've been learning Aikido for a year in Seoul and really want to continue. Where would be the best place for Aikido? Which city has most opportunities to learn various martial arts?
I have a mild bladder problem which I've been taking Chinese medicine for. It seems to be working so I want to continue. I would have thought that both Shanghai and Taipei have an abundance of tcm doctors. Are there many hospitals/ practises that speak English and treat foreigners?
If anybody has any information in any of these areas I'd be really glad to hear. Cheers. |

I would definitely take Taipei over Shanghai, and not just for financial reasons. Taipei is a much pleasanter city with a better transport system, for one thing. And you can indeed save more money there. Generally, life in Taiwan is less problematic than it is on the mainland.
I have tried TCM in both China and Taiwan, and found it better in the latter location. For any kind of complaint, I would have more confidence in Taiwanese medicine, whether western or oriental.
It's up to you, but that's my two cents' worth. Good luck. |
