I've seen several posts about Nizwa University but not this school. I have a phone interview next week, so I have some questions.

First of all, I don't know what to expect from the phone interview. All I know is that the head of the English Language Center will be calling me, and it will be a conference call. He has an English name.

Anybody with first or close second hand knowledge of this school? I've not seen any descriptions of the job, but all the ELCs seem to have about 20 contact hours and 40 on site hours per week, around 1000 Rials plus accomodation. There doesn't seem to be much variation from this. Am I right?

The head of English is a great man and a good friend of mine. He is actually Canadian / Scottish. I also have a Sudanese friend who works in the technical side and another Canadian friend in the English department.

All reports i have had from my friends are very positive. The current HoD took over about a year ago and has worked hard (with HUGE support from his Dean) to improve failities and standards. The atmosphere seems very good and the dean is immensely popular.

I have not worked there myself, but my three friends have only 98% good and 2% bad things to say about it.

Thanks a lot, Beachee! I've read that the recruiter, CECNE, is a trifle dodgy (aren't they all), but having a good HoD more than balances that out. Not having been to Oman before, I'm sure I'd rather be in Muscat, but if the job is satisfying, it helps one to accept and appreciate what the locale has to offer.

I've read that there are a couple of hotel bars in the area, but is there a place in town where you can buy beer and take it home? Do you have to obtain a license, like in UAE? Cool

Had my phone interview about ten days ago, and it seemed to go well. The HoD said the hiring freeze would have to be lifted in one or two weeks (from that time) for obvious reasons. I have a feeling it's happened now. I'm getting responses to apps I put in six and seven weeks ago and forgot about.
