Always get business cards from where you're living be it hotel, university or apartment. If they're not available, get somebody to write the address in the local language twice on paper which you carry in two places on your person.

Taxis can then always get you home. There's nothing scarier than being lost in a place where you can't speak the language or maybe not even read the street signs - the voice of experience.

Good point, however I would add that you want it written in English, in the script of the native language, and in a transliteration of the native language (not all taxi drivers are literate and sometimes you gotsta say it yourself).
