4500 is not enough for Shanghai, unless you plan to eat noodles and stare at the wall you will easily spend that.

Your contract is reasonably fair if you are like many of the people who come to China to teach English - have a good time and travel. ...... and fit in some 'serious teaching' in between.

The Rock is right about 4,500 - It's not a lot but if you're engaging, qualified, entertaining and intelligent you'll be able to triple that income over time.

Try and learn the language, when you come here try and take a positive attitude, try to be very aware of the ways that Chinese people because of ingrained culture will want to take advantage of you as a newbie.

I've lived and taught here for half of the last 14 years, my wife is Shanghainese and my kids go to public schools here - You'll be right mate!

This is nonsense. The school should pay for your physicial exam.

I would change the wording so that even if the foreign experts building has rooms available, you have the option to accept the housing subsidy instead and find your own accommodation off campus.

Good idea, so when I first get there I can stay there until I find a place, if it doesn't work out then I can stay on.

Also, thanks TangWolun for the encouragement =)

Is it 12-16 academic hours (40 or 45 minutes) or real hours?

The wages are crap but you should have plenty of time to find some private work to boost your income.

It is 45 min periods,

and as you are saying, an extra 5 hours/week at 150/hr = 3000/month, so it's not too bad if I can go out and find more work.

4500 for shanghia?

Dude, you need to give that a wide birth unless you are living in the city and plan on a 2nd job.

4500 anywhere is China is garbage but in Shanghai consider it an insult.

I thought I had done my research with SH public universities and it seems like they all pay this amount for these hours. This one gives me an extra 3000 for housing, but what would, in your mind be plausible for this type of job in Shanghai?
