Wonderful information!

I'm going to Cairo to study Arabic, and have applied to take the CELTA there as well. Would love to teach in Lebanon!

Dear orangepeel and dkrs

I too was planning to come to Lebanon and look for jobs. I wonder if anyone has any information about how easy/difficult it is to find teaching jobs without a CELTA/TEFL in Lebanon. I am a qualified secondary school teacher in UK with some english teaching experience.

It looks like an ominous challenge from the blogs so far...

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I was wondering where the best places to apply in Lebanon and Syria are. I am currently working in Palestine but I want to vary my experiences before I apply for Graduate School at AUB.

Hi everyone. I've read through most of this thread and was just hoping to find some more up-to-date information since the last thing posted was in 2009.

I'm an American with a BA in English and a post-baccalaureate TESL certificate from an accredited university (which took me a lot more work to get than a CELTA but sadly doesn't have the same brand recognition). I have experience teaching English, ESL, and EFL to students between the ages of 4 and 40. I've taught at public schools, private academies, and had a brief stint at a university. I also have an American teaching license with English endorsement.

Currently I'm with a private company in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The opportunity to save money here is great but the lifestyle is horrible and the people I work for are *beep* and I'm looking forward to leaving when my contract is up.

I'm leaning heavily toward moving to Lebanon after that. I can probably start work in late December or early January 2011.

Many of my Lebanese friends have recommended I apply at LAU or AUB, including some students who think I shouldn't have a problem getting hired. However I've looked at their websites and it appears they only hire teachers with PhDs and I haven't even completed my Master's.

Does anyone have any leads on current job opportunities for Western native-speakers with my level of experience and qualifications?

I have no on-the-ground knowledge to give you, but I know that TEFL jobs in the Language Units or Centers at AUB and LAU normally require MAs. Will yours be finished soon?

You might look at the better International Schools there - sorry but I can't tell you anything about which are good or bad. I usually suggest trying to find out where the embassy kids go. Cool
