Hello...newbie here, wondering how to go about finding esl jobs in india, seems like a missing link here. ?

Virtually zero positions to be had over there, young man; the Indians are not as dumb as East Asians hiring native speakers to do "conversation" classes - they teach English there, and with more success than the Chinese or Japanese do!

One thing you'll soon discover, if you hang around Dave's long, is that threads often veer off in all sorts on directions that may have little to do with the original posting. But what Roger wrote is correct (in fact, the subject of "jobs in India" has appeared here before). There are, apparently, almost no PAYING jobs to be had there for ex-pats. There are "volunteer" jobs - but unless you're independently wealthy, I doubt those would be of interest. Actually, that's exactly WHY there's no "India Forum" on Dave's.

I've recently seen a couple of jobs advertised for Sri Lanka-the British Council no less. Any suggestions why there is no board for Sri Lanka. Other less illustrious or popular countries have their own boards...... Huh Qatar for example.

Nope, I'm clueless (a not unusual state for me to be in). I would have thought, though, that EFL paying jobs would be about as scarce in Sri Lanka as they are in India, and for pretty much the same reasons. Maybe there's simply not enough volume of EFL employment there to justify a forum. Those "couple of jobs" could be the exception to the general rule.
But other than that guess, I have no idea.

Many a true word is spoken in jest. But nope - I'm quite serious. You may well experience the same feeling as you age - that the older I get, the more clearly I see how very little I know. But Mother Nature is kind. I'll probably incur Alzheimer's in the not too distant future, and then I won't be able to remember how ignorant I am.

Only is you believe that "Ignorance is bliss." And, if you thought that, why then they'd be no difference between you and your students. Besides, knowing how ignorant I am doesn't exactly fill me with elation.

Courage - all is not yet lost. Your knowing you are dumbing down (hmm, dmb = dumbing? Naw) means there's still time. Run, don't walk, to the nearest airport before it's too late. Gee, this is starting to remind me of the Body-Snatchers' Pod People (only I guess in the Gulf they'd be called the Mind-Snatchers) and "The Night of the Living Dead").

the DMB/ DUMB thing has been done before. But anyway, I only have to hang on to my mind for another 4 weeks then I'm out off here. I'll be in Istanbul soon, so as long as I don't bump into Scot47 I'll be safe.

I think the reason there are no jobs in India might be because English is actually the official language there! Hindi and Tamil are the true 'mother' tongues' of millions of Indians, as well as Punjabi, Goan etc. English is used as the official language because there are so many dialects. Indians put more time into learning international languages, like English than learning another dialect. Other than a strong accent, many many Indians speak excellent English. There are many call-centers in Indian cities that deal with customers in the UK. In fact many Indians may use 3 languages interchangeably. In an office in Mumbai, the boss would give out orders in English and everything would be written in it. Supervisors would have team discussions in Hindi and the office workers would chat in Marathi, the local language!
Domestic English ability is good enough without needing the services of foreigners, mostly. I think there may be a few jobs available at International schools.
