Hi I'm currently applying to Vaughan Systems for a position in Spain. So far, they seem like a reputable, professional company but has anybody here worked for them or heard much about them? Thanks for any help. |

Hi Lennon146
I am currently teaching in Turkey and contemplating moving to Spain in the near future. One institute I would like to apply to is Vaughan because of their link to a university. Did you end up taking their two-week training course? How was it? Where you given a job offer? How do you like working for the company? Thanks for any help. Regards. |

Do a search on this and other tefl boards.
There have been complaints about VS.
I saw someone who said they could earn 3000e a month with them but later admitted that there was a snag with them. They have their own system and you need to fit in. maybe u have to pay for yr course? or maybe they work you hard? Whatever it is, I remember something odd about them.
I don't know the full dirt but I have seen some bad stuff about them.

Thanks Pauleddy for your reply.
I would definitely do my homework before accepting any offers. I may stay put in Turkey for a while, with the economic situation and all . . .
It will be interesting to see what happens to the TEFL job market in September/October

Unless I am mistaken I believe Vaughan Systems prefer teachers without any previous experience so they can be taught to teach in the companie's unique way. I think all teachers have to go through a 3 or 4 week learning course at the end of which they start work. |

The only "complaint" I know of is that you will burn out working for them longer than a couple of academic years.
On the other hand I know people who work for them and make good money for long hours with no complaints.
You have to do a two week training course; the first being an assessment of your ability to fit into their agenda. If you don't make the cut after the first week you get canned. I suppose you'd have to be some kind of numpty not to pass it though.
They work 35 hours a week which is decent, given that lots of teachers here work 20 hours with 15-20 hours travelling on top. As far as I am aware, most of the classes are in the same place so not nearly as much travelling and not as many cancellations, which are a problem here with the amount of one on one classes on offer.
My advice for anyone coming to Madrid: take as many hours as you can get with as few of them as possible being one on ones. Vaughan seems to fit that criteria pretty well. |

They seem to be a reputable established company. They don't offer work currently to non EU passport holders though, so I was just wondering about the comments I saw about working for them, have anyone from the US actually worked with them before?
Thanks,
Kathy. |

All said though, their method is pretty wank and Vaughan seems like a smarmy *beep* that thinks he is god's gift to TEFL.
I fart in his general direction. |

I lived in Madrid for 9 months and I spoke to several English teachers who have lived there for 30 years. One of them said Vaughan was a creep and another told me of someone who had been sacked without notice. The consensus seems to be that the company lacks integrity. |
