I think the main reason they wanted to speak to me was to see if they could get someone to fill a position that someone has pulled out of last minute perhaps, I don't even see how it would be possible for them to interview anyone in July for an August/September start? The visa/setup timing would be pretty tight Surprised

When I asked if I could be considered for an interview with a later departure date, the woman I was speaking to sounded a bit put off. Seems as though they were trying desperately to get someone to fill that position.

I have a partner and this is not the first time that I've gone off for an extended period of time. Is it hard? Not for us. Travelling and being away from home for an extended period of time happens to be the norm for both of us (although his stints are definately not as often or extended as mine).

We don't have a problem, but this is one of those things that can often put a huge strain on a relationship. Just because it works for some people doesn't mean it can be made to work for all.

Being away for a long time will change you. You partner will change in the time you are not around. In the time you are apart, you'll both likely meet meet new people, make new friends... you don't know what will come in the future, so no amount of disscussion/planning with your partner is going to guarentee that your relationship will survive.

Does anyone who's out there have a partner back home?? I'm wondering how hard it will be. I'm moving in with my boyfriend this week, and jetting of to Japan for a year could throw a spanner in the works...

As the Spanish say "amor de lejos amor para pendejos." Love from afar is love for fools. Don't know how long you two have been together and it's difficult to say how hard it will be. Just that yes, it would be hard.

Well, all I can do is wait and see, I suppose. I would regret it if I stayed at home and didn't travel just so I could be with him... because right now, being with him also involves being at a crappy job in a skanky flat, having all my friends scattered around the world and wondering why I spent so much money and time on a degree! So you know, it's just being around here really, if you've ever come to Manchester you may understand Wink

Anyway... I'm waiting to hear whether I'm even accepcted by Interac! If not, I like the sound of Shane... they seem to have a lot more paid holidays anyway!!

Well, that;s the decision made for me -
They emailed me yesterday to say that they were impressed with my application, but that they could not offer me a place this September. However, I've been shortlisted and they'd like to offer me a place for March 2010... Well! You guys seem to have at least been given the choice, but seeing as I was leaning towards March but afraid of annoying them things seem to have worked out quite nicely Smile

Good job gwynnie! Congratulations Smile

I'm still waiting to hear back from them about being invited to a later interview for a March placement.

hey guys

for those who've heard back after their interview seminars, was just wondering:

do they get in touch with us regardless of the result, or only if we've been offered a job? and is it by email/post/phone?

I interviewed a month ago in what was probably one of the final batches of seminars done, and am still waiting on word about whether I've been offered a job for an Aug start. I know the actual placement can go down to the wire or won't happen until you're actually over there, but the recruiter said we'd hear back about the job itself within 3 weeks.

Well, I won't be working for Interac now. After telling me in June, I had passed all that they would need for employment, the recruiting manager has now emailed me to tell me I've been rejected Shocked

If you attended an interview they are meant to get back to you regardless of whether you were accepted or rejected.

You should send them an email. If you did accepted but somehow didn't get the email, then you might have already gone passed the 10 day deadline for accepting employment.

Hmm, I'm wondering if there's a way to contact our predecessors before arriving in Japan. Maybe through contacting our regional offices? And I wonder if the predecessors & we will be teaching at the same schools or if it'll be all jumbled between the ALTS in the same city (since certain people requested only certain school levels to teach at).
