|
|
Hi all
I'm heading to Hanoi at the end of July. If I only get a one way ticket, will I have problems at customs?? I'm aware that some countries really don't like this.
I was perhaps planning on getting a cheap Air Asia flight booked to Bangkok or somewhere just to show that I'll be leaving.
Do I need to do this?
Thanks for anyone's help.

I have never gone through customs in Vietnam but from what I gather it shouldn't be a problem. Being presentable and dressing smart is always a good idea when dealing with them. If you are really worried about it you could try something like this:

Are you American? If so, be aware that you are going to have a difficult time getting travel insurance on a one-way. |

They do not ask to see your tickets or boarding passes at Immigration. |

Yeah Inky, that's what I'd hoped but I'm getting conflicting advice. I've been through Vietnam but overland and on a group trip where our passports were done together.
My mate flew into New Zealand afterwards and was forced to buy a 700 return ticket as she'd only bought a one way. She got the money back...EVENTUALLY....
Think I'll get a one way and then a $70 Air Asia ticket from Hanoi to Bangkok dated 3 months after I arrive, just to 'show' that I'm planning on leaving at some point!
Cheers all. Can't wait to get out there now. |

I've been through immigration entering Hanoi about twenty times over many years (several times with a one-way ticket) and I've never ever been asked to show any kind of plane ticket, nor have I ever heard of anyone else having to show one. They only want your passport, visa and immigration card (that you fill out on the plane). Many people fly in and leave overland. Do not waste your time buying an unwanted ticket.
Airlines wouldn't allow passengers to board if this was some kind of requirement, because the airline is responsible for you if you arrive without proper documents. I have heard of some airlines demanding that passengers buy a return ticket, but that demand is made in error. |

Cheers Inky
Will get flight sorted asap. They aint cheap!
BTW if I'm coming over on spec without a job lined up, anyone know if I need to get a business visa in advance or just a tourist one? I was planning on getting 3 month tourist and sorting work/business visa out once I was there... |

A tourist visa will be fine, if you get a job with a decent school they'll get your B-visa and help start the Work Permit process. |
