It's a cliche but to grow up with MJ is one of life's delights.
One of my fav LPs is Off the Wall. The fun part was trying to put the stylus between the tracks and cleaning the LP with antistatic liquid using antistatic cloth.
The cover song still rings true for me. Anyone with a NAD turntable ?

It's sad that someone died, but really... the guy hasn't really done anything noteworthy in terms of music for more than 20 years. He just happened to be in the public eye and weird, which seems to be the only reason people still care about him.

| Well I am from Indiana - like Michael Jackson - and just a couple of years older - so remember how he was as a child and young man - and it was sad to see that despite so much money and fame - he just couldn't figure out who he was inside - obviously he had some serious mental health issues and now the news his that he was probably addicted to prescription medications. The news here is on about 24/7 about the death. Ironically I woke early that day and heard that Farrah Fawcett had passed away from her long struggle with cancer - the story was nonstop on TV about that - just a couple of days ago Ed McMahan died. So I said to a friend - you know these deaths happen in 3s - usually someone old - then someone who is a bit younger - but sick along time - then someone young and unexpected - just a couple hours latter I heard the news that Michael Jackson was taken to the emergency room for cardiac arrest - and I know very few people do recover from that - so within an hour the news was he died. The story coming out is very similar to what happened to Anna Nicole Smith and Heath Ledger. Lots of prescription drugs - given to him legally by people who wanted money and really didn't care about him at all. Lots of people seeing he desperately needed help - but no one making him get help. |

No not Gary - lived in other parts of Indiana.
On the news people are surrounding MJs childhood home in Gary, Indiana- placing flowers, cards, candles.
Are you from Gary? |

| Well, his last release that did well was in 1995, so more like 14 years than 20. Personally I am not one of his fans, but I always thought he was a great dancer and put on good shows for his fans. And yes, he had a lot of personal issues that never seemed to be worked out. As to the pedaphile charges..... |

I just wish he'd had a chance to do a few comeback shows to show everyone if he still had it or not. I had a mate that had tickets for a January show, I imagine he's gutted now. Word is that his new tunes were looking good, I imagine there's a good chance they'll appear at some point.
Regardless of his personal life, he did some great things for music, even if most of them were a while ago. Not heard Invincible, but HIStory's not bad, barring one awful song written for a Disney movie. |

Agreed! I have been focusing more on MJ's positive contributions. I recall seeing "Remember the Time" video at a San Diego night club in early 1992. Magic Johnson had just been diagnosed as being HIV positive. The prevailing thought had been that Magic would pass away soon.
Imagine the irony of Magic's seeing the news about MJ (not that I want either one of them to die. Magic was a heck of a basketball player) |

It's funny how some people condemn Michael Jackson for molestation, even though the police NEVER found sufficient evidence to make criminal charges stick. And it's pretty much been accepted that the boy at the center of the 1993 trial was pressured into accusing Jackson by his money-hungry, extortionist father. Jackson didn't want to settle, but his insurance company forced him to do it. Just look up "Jordan Chandler" and see what you find.
Sure, Jackson was around kids all the time and even slept in the same bed with some (fully clothed), so his behavior was far from "normal" or saintly. But I highly doubt that there was anything sexual about the relationships.
I have never been a Michael Jackson fan, but reading all the stories that came out after his death has made me feel sorry for him. Yes, he brought a lot of ridicule upon himself with his bizarre behavior, but the child molestation charges were most likely bogus. Unfortunately, that's what a lot of people will remember him for.... |
