Greetings,
I am taking the CELTA in Bangkok this fall. I have saved sufficient funds for my trip, but my main worry is that I won't bring enough money with me and then not have access to my money back home. I am a US resident and have US bank accounts.
Right now, I have to pay for the CELTA course. I have the bank account number, name, and SWIFT code for the course provider. What is the best way to deposit the money? Should I use Western Union?
Also, when I travel to Thailand, how much cash should I have on me initially? The places I am considering staying at want me to pay them on the first day. Is it wise to bring $1000 cash with me on the plane?
Any advice appreciated. |

ASk the course provider how they want you to deposit it. Paypal would be the easiest, maybe you could even use a credit card, if not, then a bank transfer.
You could always use an ATM, just don-t have yor lifesavings on the card. I know a guy who got wiped out completely here in South America, basically he-s now homeless.
Bring a bit off cash, just enough to cover your needs,
Have money on an ATM, but not too much
Have someone from home have access to your accounts or give them money to send you in an emergency. |

hey MDDude, with that SWIFT code and stuff you should be able to get your bank to do a wire transfer straight to them.. just give them the information and they can take care of it.
as for money in country, i usually just use my ATM card, but that could be a bit risky. if you think you will just need money for a little while, bring some traveler's checks and keep your ATM card safe for back up. |
