I managed to call the SAFEA number on their website, then was told that I had the wrong department. I was given an extension, though the person who answered the phone could not transfer me.

When I tried to call again, I got a Chinese message which I do not understand.

This is the number I am calling: 010-8610-68948899

This is the same number that I called when I reached the wrong department. It's the same number that appears on the website.

Update: the email address posted on their site returned my email as undeliverable.

Three years ago, I emailed SAFEA to get information about a certain problem that we had at an institution. I am still waiting for an answer.

more than 4 years ago after i'd signed into a nanning's company (guanxi), i received a really pleasant email from the local foreign expert office, even though in a chinglish that i had troubles understanding well. however, at that point,i believed i was a registered foreign expert in the city and well taken care of. Smile

a few weeks ago my FAO took me to a PSB where we applied for my RP. interestingly, i saw my very own SAFEA contract...just the cover page and the page with my name on it. my FAO flashed the contract in front of the officer (didn't open it) and there went my new RP. by the way, i also saw my foreign expert booklet (in the hands of my FAO). yes, i asked for it, although i did not get it. am i a fool? should i call the SAFEA too? well, it looks like they are a really really interesting organization.

cheers and beers to one china with many cities around

My college doesn't even know what the SAFEA is. No one had ever heard of it until I pointed out that my contract's first page says that it is issued by the State Agency for Foreign Experts Affairs.

Duh.

I've followed Dave's Cafe for several years, but I could never believe the stories about the thorough cluelessness of some administrators until I arrived at my present (and soon-to-be former) destination.

And now, since I have tried to contact SAFEA with scant success, I have seen the illusory nature of some administrators. Where I am still working (though I was canned last week with no forewarning), contracts are not observed, and their own breech-of-contract clauses mean nothing to them.

"But look at the addendum to your contract! We can screw you over at will!"

--- Look at my note at the bottom of the page: 'signed under duress'. It isn't written on SAFEA-approved contract agreement. This was rewritten AFTER I signed the SAFEA contract.

"But our intentions are honorable."

--Yeah, and the road to h3ll is paved with good intentions. You canceled my contract for no reason.

"We gave you a reason. We decided to cancel your contract. We do this every term."

Duh...

the same with my school...and, i too have pointed that out to them..is it a true or convenient ignorance, or is it just a pure cluelessness...that's a question, isn't it? Wink

yeah..if you push too far or try to imply that you "do not trust them", you either might lose that opportunity getting the job or keeping it Smile

i feel so frustrated at times in this country as the market is so large and there are so many employers as well as job seekers. never mind the quality of either, the result is that both are taking advantages and chances. officials are seemingly nonexistent.

cheers and beers to the opportunities with not only honorable intentions
