I hope that you do not rush into a hasty decision, pro or con, regarding the job offer made by the University of Hail. First of all, you should know that in Hail you will likely be living at the compound called Mishar 1.

I have noticed that your comments about going for walks have elicited various responses. Stephen Jones is quite correct when he says that your residence places you close to the countryside. In fact, once you go through the main gate of the compound, you continue for a few meters then turn left on the main road. After about fifty meters, you will see the path leading to the desert.

Here, you will discover a wonderful area where you and your family can walk to your heart's content. Sometimes you will see a few tents where Saudi families are having picnics and children are playing football. A couple curious camels might come wandering by. Don't worry about the odd stray dog that might bark at you. A few well-aimed stones thrown in his direction will send him packing. In addition, the air is fresh and clean and you won't be breathing the kind of polluted mess that one encounters in places like downtown Toronto or Los Angeles. What I have stated is the basic scenario. If you don't like it , don't go.

The suggestion made by Marquess that you and your family will be physically and psychologically abused in various ways as you go for your walks is nothing but highly exaggerated nonsense. The people in areas of Saudi Arabia like Hail, Tabuk and Taif are usually unfailingly gracious and polite. At any rate, that was what I experienced when I lived in that part of the world many years ago. The notion that you are likely to suffer unduly from the heat is largely drivel. Anyone going for a walk would presumably have enough sense to do it in the early morning or late afternoon. In any case, if you do go to Saudi, you will discover that most Saudis think that Hail has the most moderate temperatures in the country.

Finally, perfection does not exist anywhere and there are a lot of places in Saudi Arabia which are a lot worse than Hail. It is up to you to consider the facts from as wide a variety of sources as possible, assess them in a rational manner and then arrive at the decision that is most advantageous to you and your family.

Hi everybody,

I have questions about Hail and its university as well.
My husband is considering the work with the university. Since some time he has been studying the map of Hail on Wikimapia. So far he has found a tiny university campus to the South-East of the city, opposite the industrial area. Is this where the administration sits? He hasn�t found any departments yet. If we consider the Tower (Bourge) to be the city centre, where (in which direction) should one look for the engineering department?
About compounds: Cassava mentioned about one of them Mishar1. The other one is Mishar2? (MyTrunkshow wrote that there were two compounds in the city). In which one the staff of the engineering department gets places?

At the University of Hail, housing is allocated primarily on the basis of the size of your family and the kind of residence that is required. As far as I know, the department in which one works is not a factor. Mishar 1, Mishar 2, and a couple apartment buildings are used for this purpose.

I have not been to the Hail region for some time, but I think the Engineering Department is administered from the central University campus. The University is in the process of expansion, so recent modifications might have been made.

Housing is provided free in this and most other jobs in KSA.

In my experience, they often/usually are.
