Yes, there are lots of nail salons in Tokyo which is probably nail art capital of the world- I can't speak for Tama-shi, but that is a small area that is just one suburb of Tokyo. You don't need to limit your activities to just there when you can be in a different suburb in 10 minutes on the train.

Do come back and report on what you have found out once you actually get to Japan, won't you? Some people inundate the board with questions in the couple of months before they leave, then once they get to Japan are never heard from again- no thanks for the advice or feedback on their own experiences.

Plenty of nail salons, usually next to the station where there are also hair salons.

My school does not allow teachers to put glitter all over their fingers, plain is ok.

Check.

i said i would respond and i'm keeping to my word...

TONS of places to get your nails done all over Japan...TOOOO expensive!!! I pay in california at the most like 4,000 yen for amazing nails with designs and every finger and almost every upgrade. Here is starts at about 10,000 yen for just putting the nails on...no design or color or finish to them...toooo expensive for me!

Was that a top salon, chain, local corner salon or what?

I've seen some crazy nails (even in my neck of the woods), and I get flyers through my door with prices starting much lower than that.

If you want to really impress people, grow your own. Everyone finds the fact that my talons are real and in really nice condition far more impressive than the fact I have long nails. I was suprised when even a girl with minature mobile phone accessories hanging off her nails, approached me to ask about them... and I'm still wondering how she wipes after going to the loo Confused

hahaha i wonder the same thing about girls who have the long nails...how do they do anything?!?

the prices they advertise i have looked into...and thats pretty much the most basic thing ever like a manicure..but to put them on and to get through the whole process it's much more!! they charge you practically for every step from the advertised price. I just want basic french tips of a solid color...no design neccesary!

i would looove to grow out my own nails...buuut i have a horrrrible oral fixation and i'm constantly bitting my nails...i'm trying to stop and i'm getting better at it...when i have fake nails on i don't bite them as much...maybe this is the motivation i need to stop biting them!

I got my nails done at a local salon in Chiba Pref. For gel nails, gradations color (opaque at the tips) simple art on two nails, I paid 9500. They last about two-three months. I figure that 3000/month is reasonable.

If you're trying to grow out your own nails, eat lots of salt-free almonds. Your nails will be much stronger and less likely to split or break.
