Well I was most emphatically informed that my point of origin was what was in my passport(UK) regardless that I had been resident in another country for the last 6 years, actually resident in other lands for the last 15 years, this issue so preoccupied them that they issued me with the necessary visa authorization only after crucial decisions had to be made and deadlines had to be met.
Outcome= I will not be coming to the KSA to spread my usual joy and happiness. Happy is the land of Himavant at my decision
Every Day......... I am Mr K
PS Maaan Mr Electric you are sooooooooooo enigmatic!!!! |

You have addresses in your passport? I always used my parent's address in the US because it was in the middle of the country and got me a more expensive ticket. Then I went to the travel agency that wrote the ticket and turned it into the route that I wanted.

Dear eclectic,
"As for chocolate chips and head 'n shoulders, I like neither sweets, NOR dandruff shampoos, Mr. Slat!"
Good to know - you do, however, seem perhaps too fond of generalizations.
"anglo-saxon alert" - come on. That's as inane (and insulting) as writing, say, "third world national alert."
Regards,
John the Celt. |

No addresses but it does have my town of birth and that apparently is where the point of origin was determined.
All a moot point now for me..
sometimes it's better to stand still
especially when
you are over the hill.
in every way

johnnyslats--
Celts are NOT anglo-saxons. You were not therefore touched in any way by my generalization.
And right you are, that I tend to generalize. Knowing full well that it is a real rough estimation based solely on my own personal experiences. Yet there is still some remote charm in it, and I haven't yet met a homo sapiens who has utterly refrained from it at one point or another.
Hey Kip! Good to hear from ya again! Well I thank you, mate, for that kind postscript!
p.s. enigmatic, emphatic, and future-matic am I, aye! |

Dear eclectic
Yes, I realize that Celts are not anglo-saxons, which is why I signed off as I did. But you see, I don't think one has to be a member of a stereotyped group in order to think that such stereotypes are so often mistaken and can be offensive.
Sorry, but I don't find any charm - remote or otherwise - in it. You're right that we all indulge in it to some degree. I guess we all indulge in other less than noble actions, too. But I'd say that doesn't make them right.
Maybe it's just a Celtic trait.
Regards,
John |

Well it's hard to be/
exempt from history/
so make a cup of tea/
and revel in some biscuitry.
As my moniker suggests I am biased toward the idea that British Biscuitry takes some beating but a natural inclination towards ones own biscuits does not necessarily preclude those of other countries, one should avoid generalizations...erm... in general..if you know what I mean
Right...it's the end of the day/
and time for bed for Mr K
PS: You are not where you are, Littloldlady.
Isn't that a little.....................shady???

Mr John
I am with you all the way on the matter of stereotypes. Just cos I'm a littleoldlady doesn't mean to say I am little or old or a lady. I am definitely NOT an OLD DEAR. |

Everyone is offended by something. I'm sorry you find no charm in it, you don't have to, nor does anyone else. I personally am less offended by a comment about Italians (I am Italian-American) than I am when someone like Kane writes to me: "WE really don't need to read your opinion...." etc....
But that's just me. So when I detect someone's unnecessary arrogance, I try to explain it to them in an equally unnecessary way, in order that they may see their obtuse and unnecessarily PERSONAL snideness about a few of my posts being identical.
I don't find, for example, a redundant or identical post to be personally insulting or snide or arrogant, so I am irritated that a poster would be that way with me. At the very most, IMO, a redundant or identical post could only be considered silly or ridiculous or unnecessary, but it hardly calls for smug pomp or mildly snide arrogance.
Now, if you say to me "2 wrongs don't make a right", should I call that a generalization of sorts?
Anyway johnnyslats, your demeanor is much more graceful than that of most others, even in your firm disagreements. And THAT is one of the traits I admire the most in people. |

Dear eclectic,
Thank you for your restrained and polite response - and for the personal compliment.
Actually, not being a Mod, I have no problem at all with posters dealing with slights (perceived, real or both) occasioned by other posters' remarks. However, it seems to me that it would make more sense to deal with such situations on a personal - rather than a generalized - level, especially since neither of us (I'm pretty sure) can know for certain whether or not the offending party is, in fact, an anglo-saxon.
By all means take umbrage, but rather than aiming at an entire group (which the intended target might not even belong to), why not narrow your focus to that of the offender him/herself?
Regards,
John |

I'm surprised at the posters that inhabit this board! We need to PC-up the speech here, at least that would conform to WWOTUTD (What Would Oprah Tell Us To Do?) requirement of decency and publis discourse.
Might I suggest refraining from the use of the tired ol' "anglo-saxon" to the new and approved "people not of color" as all others seem to be "people OF color".
Now, excuse me whilst I go walking thru walls with my transparent self!

Wise, Mr johnslat. And, to quote eclectic, "graceful".
eclectic, my exclamation-ridden post came from my taking umbrage. Not really sure why though . Strictly, I'm more of a "third-world national" . |

While you decide, I shall and tie up my plaits.

Dear NCTBA,
If you must refer to me by means of an ethnic/racial designation, please be advised that I much prefer either "gringo" or "honkey" to anglo-saxon.
Regards,
John
P.S. Harp, bog-trotter, or mackerel-snapper will also suit me nicely. I cannot be called "a person of non-color" because, well, all God's chillun got color.
PPS Dear LOL,
Valkyrie might be the appropriate PC term. And you don't mess with Valkyries. |
