Hi there!
I've spent hours checking out this forum (very useful indeed) but I just would like your opinion on my situation:

*BA in Education (teacher of English. 4-yr college education. Subjects such as phonology, CAE, CPE, methodology etc etc)
*International student at University in Ireland for 1 semester
*Bilingual upbringing (Dutch/English)
*Lived in London for about 3 years
*Teacher of English at a secondary school in the Netherlands for 3 years. About 700 hours of experience.

I am looking for a new challenge (doesn't really matter where in the world) and have already spent hours searching the web for jobs, but the words ''native speaker required'' + ''Celta'' keep coming up! Shocked

HELP! What to do now?

Netherlands, you should be fine. English is well spoken there. Search here for jobs
www.eslcafe.com
www.tefl.com
www.seriousteachers.com

You don-t need to be a native

If you are already a certified English teacher you do not need a CELTA that is only for those of us who have never taught before.

Looking at your (impressive) CV my advice is just apply for jobs as you normally would, most companies do telephone interviews before they actually hire and as a Dutch English speaker I'm sure you would have no problems. Very Happy

From what I have read, the CELTA/DELTA/TESL/TEFL certifications aren't that important, but the fact that you are non-native may be problematic. It probably will be influenced by where you want to teach...

OP, you are qualified. If an employer won't accept you despite your qualifications, you won't want to work for them anyways.

I work in the Netherlands - the majority of the 18+/- English teachers on our staff are Dutch, and nearly all of them have taught abroad.

Just apply anyway. Being Dutch (or Scandinavian) won't actually count against you in most places.
