Dont count on any responses here. Disappointing as it may be, dont count on any responses here.

I give you credit, a single female Russian or Ukrainian teacher in Jeddah.......you are certainly an adventurist.

Good luck! Smile

I havent arrived yet, so I cant help you.

There is really no way anyone could help you with this right now, and even if someone offered I would be suspicious of the offer. Just relax and wait until you get to the university. Only when it reaches the very, very last minute...when you are homeless in KSA and completely desperate.....will someone in your university help you find a place. That's the compassionate Saudi way.

Well, that's strange. So many people are coming over (more than 20 females) How can they expect them to find everything themselves?
You're saying they are not gonna help - well, if somebody found though the agency, then why not share about this agency?
At least give some ideas, what are the prices in the districts, compounds.
I would even take 1 bedroom, it's ok with me.
How much would be to hire a private driver?

The best option for you is to rent in a hotel (they call them furnished accommodation), you can rent a one double bedroom with kitchen + bathroom + seating room with a reasonable price for a month, between SR4000 and SR10000 /month). You need to stay at least 2 - 3 weeks while you are looking for a permanent furnished accommodation near the university. The prices vary according to the location, size, area, and state of the accommodation. Also, it would be better if you contact the public relation office of the university to help you finding a suitable accommodation.

For the first month it would be better if you take a taxi instead of hiring a driver, until you see by yourself how things are going. Also, ask the public relation office of the university to provide you with trusted taxi agencies where you can hire for long term.

No, my point was that your university WILL help you....but not until the last moment, when are so stressed and frazzled that you are at the end of your rope and ready to leave. That's my experience with working for the Saudis. Even obviously necessary things that should be pre-planned are always left until the very last possible second.

You can talk to your employers until you are blue in the face now, but it will be "mafi mushkillah" until you are standing in front of them, desperate for housing for yourself and your family.

You will not be able to sponsor a private driver, so you would have to pay around 1500 a month to have a driver completely at your service...and that's without the car. You would be better off to get the name and mobile number of a reputable taxi driver and make a deal with him for several days of transportation.

Hey metalval,

I am currently in the shoes you had on when you first arrived in Jeddah. Would you be so kind as to share your house-hunting experience? How long did it take until you found a permenant place? Is it far from KAU? I've been searching on expatriates.com and e-mailing landlords to no avail. Please do share some tips and lessons learned in finding a place in Jeddah. I would be eternally greatful. Smile

"I would be eternally greatful."

"grateful"..."greatful" kinda means "full of greatness"...
