There are four of us and we are looking into Asian consulting for teaching jobs in Taiwan?
They said they have found jobs for all four of us and the contract sounds pretty good. I just wonder with the market if it is legit.
Has anyone ever heard of them or done business with them? Any info is helpful about this consulting place and doing business in Taiwan |

If a recruiter/agent/consultant ever asks you for money or to sign their contract or for you to give them your passport or even your passport number or your degree then they are NOT legitimate. You will only get screwed.
You can go with them and see what they have to offer. Incidently what are the terms of the contract? How many hours and for how much? Some recruiter jobs, when you work it out, only pay $350 an hour. Laughable. Where? Is it in a city or in a one horse town in the middle of nowhere? Will all four of you be able to live and work moderately close by? You may find life a little boring outside of the big cities of Taipei, Kaushiung, Taichung, Tainan.
Look at prior posts on this forum and others. Just two recruiters, De-wei (sp?) and Reach To Teach, seem to have a generally positive consensus. Although the pay is a bit low in my opinion. Maybe good for a first timer though.
You may luck onto a good one but I have found that recruiters deal with schools in small towns (that no one in their right mind would ever agree to live in), with low pay (but maybe good for a first timer), and less able management. But you never know. These are only generalisations. There are jobs still to be had.
But of course if you want better answers you need to supply better information. How much will you get? How many hours? Which city/village? |

I actually joined this board because I have an answer to this question, so I hope you are still around to read it.
I met "Asian Consultants" by chance once while living in Taiwan. It is, if I remember right, run by an ABC girl from Texas (Julie Teng). I don't think there is much staff besides her. While the website is a little spartan and vague, she was friendly and seemed trustworthy.
I was introduced to her, funnily enough, by another American guy from whom I was buying a wireless router and who sold some streaming internet TV service in the office beside her's.
In any case, she offered to look for employment for me if I was interested (I was not, only in Taiwan for school at that time). Months later, I gave her card to an airheaded roommate on a landing visa, and she turned him down on the phone. Thus, I would not worry that she is scamming you.
The only concern you should have is that, as far as the website states, you have to interview and show a demo to the school found for you. If they don't like you in person, they won't hire you, and then you'll have to rely on ACI or yourself to find another place before your visa expires. |
