BR language school sent me a contract. But they want to take B 20,000 to hold until the end of a year contract, citing previous irresponsible teachers as the reason for the escrow. Also, they pay by the hour even though there is a contract. I asked for the e-mail of someone currently employed by them and am still waiting for a response. WHAT do you people think?

20,000 baht 'in escrow'?? That is absolute crap. A decent school would pay you an end of contract BONUS as an incentive to stay, not take your money.

Ditto for the 'hourly contract' bit. Sounds like a scam to pay you less when they cannot provide you with enough teaching hours.

Run, don't walk, away from BR lang school.

As I recall, if you leave in the middle of a contract, they cancel your work permit but cannot cancel your visa, as it is already in your passport. Am I right about this?

Yes. As long as you keep doing the 90-day reporting, you should be fine.

But I suppose your employer could call immigration and cancel your work permit, and therefore the visa, if they wanted.
