I came home to Ireland for the summer. Seems the rules have changed for new Z visa applications. I gotta get an 'employment permit' - letter of invitation and the standard visa form - but no medical it seems. I guess there will be one in China (new employer). Anyone else come across this latest rule change?

"""""
For the Irish passport holders who apply for any type of the Chinese visa, the following are required: one completed visa application form (available on our website), one recent photograph for passport, passport valid up to at least six months with blank pages.

Foreign experts, scholars, teachers or managers shall provide the original version and photocopy of the Employment Permit from the Ministry of Labour or the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs of China together with an invitation letter from the company, university or college authorized by the Chinese Government; """"""

I've always had the medical done in China and if converting a Z visa into a Residency Permit the tests must be done within 30 days of arrival.

I had to get the medical done and scan the forms so that the school could get me the two documents I need to take to get my visa. I got my medical done at an approved place by the Chinese government. (The place ONLY does medicals for people going to China.) I called today about what I need to get the Z visa and apparently I also have to hand them a copy of the medical I had done. The place gave me 2 copies and my xrays. I am hoping this means I won't have to get the medical redone once I am in China.

I am not sure. Correct me if i'm wrong but it seems you do need a medical certificate.

"Note: Foreigners employed in China for one year or longer is required to provide the original version and photocopy of health certificate (the form available on our website)."
http://ie.china-embassy.org/eng/Consular/AboutVisa/t112836.htm

I actually only looked that up today. My prospective job sent me a medical exam and i'm not sure if I have to complete every single bit of it, because it seems I will do it all over again once I am in China. If anyone can give me some advice on this?

I also got confirmation from the UK embassy that you can apply for a Z-Visa with an Irish passport and you don't need a medical certificate. If that saves anybody any bother. (I know that's what i'd rather do)

you can get the chinese/english form from your local chinese embassy. whether or not this would be accepted depends on where you go in China. In my case, it needed to be done again when i arrived. Mind you I've transfered residence permits without a medical in-country.
You need to have the back of the passport photos signed by your doctor, with an e.c.g, chest x-ray, and bloodwork (aids, syphillis, hepatitis. etc)
best of luck

I should add that the medical costs are the employer's problem when in China. They are usually, but not always, done at a special entry/exit hospital. Varying from one blood test to a full body exam, including checking your privates Shocked

I had my medical once i arrived in China at a large hospital in the city i work(Fuzhou). It took 2- hours and involved walking around the various hospital departments getting the various tests.(X-rays Blood test Eye test etc). The best part though was being made to lay on a bed in a small room and then to have 15 different people come and look at my feet.I was wondering why there was such an interest in my feet so asked the pretty young lady/ translator from the school where i worked. Her answer? The Doctors and Nurses had never seen such large feet and were curious! Sorry if i wandered a little off topic. Smile

I am in Ireland and my schools says the FAO bureau cannot issue a visa invitation until they recieve a medical report from here.

Is this becoming more common?

Must I inevitably fork out my own money that I will not get back and do it here?

I am not too keen on the alternative option (L to Z in HK)

Dharma from my FAO ""Dear Greg,
Thanks for the address.
And, Sorry to make you confused about the medical check. Yes, you could do it when you are in China. ""

From an Email from the Chinese embassy in Dublin "The health form is not compulsory at the moment. You would be reuired to take physical examination when you apply for your stay in China."

From the website "Note: Foreigners employed in China for one year or longer is required to provide the original version and photocopy of health certificate (the form available on our website)."

So one needs a health cert - it can me done in China, and is not nesseccary to do it in Ireland unless initial contract exceeds 12 months.

Were you required to get this 'Employment permit'' sent from China?

From website """""Foreign experts, scholars, teachers or managers shall provide the original version and photocopy of the Employment Permit from the Ministry of Labour or the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs of China together with an invitation letter from the company, university or college authorized by the Chinese Government;
"""""

Mine is in transit I have been informed, so I shall go to Dublin next week and return to China thereafter
