Once you newbies settle in and decide you'd like a low maintenance pet to come home to, go to http://felinefriendssharjah.com/ and make your way to the cat shelter.

Is there any trouble finding someone to pet sit if you go away for a weekend?

I'd also like to know what people do with their cats at weekends or during holidays when they're away. Smile

I know people who pay their maids to come and live in while they're away for extended periods. She gets a fully ACd place - can continue other regular cleaning gigs and your pet is looked after.

You have to know your cleaning person well and trust her (obviously). There are kennels and catteries but be sure to book well in advance during busy seasons (like 6 - 8 months before summer hols).

Sometimes a colleague nearby who is working or staying in country is a good alternative.

The main reason to have a cat instead of a dog is that you can leave them home alone for a couple days and as long as they have sufficient food, water, and a clean litter box when you leave, they will be fine... (sometimes they get a little miffed at you, but after an hour or so of ignoring you pointedly, they will forgive...)

For longer periods, some of my friends use a boarding establishment and others have a trusted person come in daily or every other day or as helen1 mentioned, let them stay in their place for the summer.

Hey keifer... does Sharjah have a cattery?

Aren't "pasties" something worn in your previously referenced "catteries" of Dubai? Laughing

I guess Keifer hasn't returned. I know that there is a good place in Abu Dhabi to board pets and I'm sure that Dubai has at least one. I wonder if Sharjah has one too.

Dear LOL,
To save you yet another Google search:

"The people that live in the Upper Peninsula or the U.P. are called "Yoopers" and are proud of it. The people that live under the bridge are called "trolls." The song "I'm a Troll Man" was written about them. Lots of trolls from down below dream about moving to da U.P., but there's no work here. So we let them come up to relax, enjoy and spend their cash, but they gotta go home afterwards."

Hope you relaxed, enjoyed and spent your cash, NCTBA - you old troll.

Regards,
John
