There's a lot of info on the net about taking the IELTS exam but very little on becoming a qualified examiner.

How does one go about this? What does being an examiner involve? And will it help my job prospects within the TESOL industry much to do it?

Thanks.

You might try contacting the British Council. Some countries, like China, are in dire need of examiners. I'm a PET; FCE and CAE one for Cambridge and I had to have someone recommend me. She was the national coordinator for exams. Still, you have to pass the training.

Training and standardisation takes anything from 2 days+ - depending on the availibilty of an examiner trainer. I think the application process is quite stingent with a written application and interview.

Is it easy to pass..........hmmmmmmmmmmm.................. I wouldn't say it is particularly easy - and I've been doing it for 4 years. You'll also be monitored regularly and will have to standardise every 2 years.

Being an examiner has it's advantages - and not just financial either - after a while you tend to mark students' work more accurately and I found it helped with my DELTA exam.
