I am planning to come back to Japan to teach after a seven year absence, and was looking for a fairly stable job to support a wife and an upcoming kid. As my risks have grown exponentially, my margin for failure is much slimmer this time around. I looked up TESOL Training International and they provide a job placement guarantee. Now, I do know that nothing in life is a guarantee, but I like to get as close to it as possible. They offer a money back guarantee, and the Better Business Bureau here in California has only two complaints listed for them, and theyve both been resolved. They want a thousand bucks for the course. Ive got about that amount saved up. I did a search for that company on Daves ESL Cafe, and there have only been some scattered comments about their online courses. Id like to know about the classroom courses. Anybody here have any experience with that particular company? How successful are they in placing their customers with jobs?

http://forums.eslcafe.com/job/viewtopic.php?t=74022 This thread is not 100% relevant to your query, but makes some interesting reading as this is one persons experience of attempting to use another course providers job placement service. They also offer the money back promise too.

I dont know the company you mention ... but I think its fair to say the jury is out on the job placement guarantee's

I'd be careful with these online courses and their job placement guarantees...have you read the conditions they stipulate before a refund can be given? I looked on their website, they refer to them but they don't list them.

Reminds me of a similar outfit called Global TESOL. They run online courses and offer a job placement guarantee also - difference is, they list their conditions: http://www.globaltesol.com/page/Policy

They're quite ridiculous...apply for at least 10 different positions in 3 different countries (ie 30 jobs in total) and their specific employment process, whatever that means. Put it this way, I would get the hint after 10 rejection letters, it wouldn't take 30!!

Don't do the course, do something onsite with real student interaction. Wink

Yes, I agree with Cubic. Don't do this. What if they offer you a job for one day in outer Bashgolia? Anyway, with an online qualification, whatever job you get - if you get one - will be the only one you're likely to get. As Cubic suggests, you want a real training course where you get to, er, teach someone. Given that most employers are impressed by CELTA or Trinity, I'd pay that extra bit and do one of those. Then, if you're willing to go where the jobs are, you should get a job (I assume you're a native speaker and a graduate - if not, this advice needs revising).
