Hello everyone,
I currently work in Saudi Arabia and I know that a lot of Saudis have been travelling to NZ over the past two years to study English. Especially during the NZ winter months. Has this created a growth in schools in NZ? I've always been told it's hard to land a teaching job there. Also, any exact figures available on the kind of savings that are possible in NZ for EFL teachers? Thanks. |

There are many Arab students studying in New Zealand these days; here at Victoria there are always delegations of officials visiting to inspect the facilities.
I can only speak for Victoria University in Wellington - the increasing presence of international students has led to a lot of growth, and has helped the financial situation of the university markedly.
Generally speaking, you would need a Master's to find university work over here, which I think is the same as any region. Teaching English in Saudi may not be altogether relevant, as many of the students who have travelled to NZ are seeking NZ qualifications - so on that basis NZ teaching would be considered more relevant.
Don't expect to make a lot of money though...coming from Saudi Arabia would involve a big shock to your pay packet! That said though, at least you would be able to grab a beer at a moment's notice. |
