I ended up buying a decent HP laptop from Amazon for $609 two days ago.

With the value of the HK$ being lower than it used to be, many things actually are cheaper in HK than on the mainland. And as other posters have already mentioned, you get an authentic OS with the laptop if you buy in HK, which is the main reason why I bought mine there. If you live in Guangdong, and can easily cross the border, I'd definitely buy one in HK, as well as other stuff like cameras, cell phones etc. |

The area right outside one of the HK Metro stops at Mong Kok heading towards Fa Yuen St. is an excellent place to buy electronics. The number of shops in that small area is high, making for a good selection. If you go there knowing the value of any product back home, its easy to find a good deal (meaning: cheaper prices than most other places).
