Why do Americans have to pay $130 for a work visa and other countries only have to pay $30? |

It reflects the amount Chinese must pay the Americans for similar services. Quid pro kuo. |

It costs alot more than that unless you live near a Chinese consulate! Especially for same day service. I paid $187.00 at pandavisa.com which included their service fee and fed ex shipping. Alot cheaper than fuel and the time it would have taken to go to Chicago and then back again to pick it up.. |

What type of visa are you getting?
(I assumed we were only talking about a working Z-Visa) |

Oh no I am getting the Z visa.
I just assumed it was a type, and therefore I had to pick which I wanted, and seeing as I plan to leave the country a couple of times to travel that I would need the year visa, is this not the case? |

For a Z-Visa you only need to apply for the single entry one (34.50) and this visa is only used for entering the country.
Then your school will guide you through the process of getting your resident permit, which is multiple entry and lasts a year. |

As silly as it sounds the z-visa is just a single entry visa which needs to be changed into a residence permit within 30 days apon your arrival into China, even though it says it is valid for a year. Your employer should apply for your foreign experts certificate and you will most likely have to get another medical in China, then you will get an r.p.f (cost 800yuan) make sure your employer pays for this.
The residence permit replaces the z-visa(a general work permit) and is your multiple entry visa, valid for a year or while you are employed by the same institution. |
