I am English and living in the NY on a work visa. I want to leave my job and a teach English in Mexico. I am considering going home (London) for a couple of months and taking a CELTA before moving and looking for work in Mexico City in January 2010. I am well travelled with a BA and MA in History and have worked in the research industry for the past 3 years. Will any of these qualifications help me find a job or equate to better pay despite not being 'English' or 'teaching' specific?

My main questions are: Would I be better off going to Mexico City to take a CELTA? Are there benefits to finding work or better employers by doing this? I understand that January is a good time to look for work, but do jobs also go pretty quickly?

It's all pretty new at the moment so any insights into teaching and life in DF would be very useful. I've been there twice and I loved it but visiting a city and living in a new country / city are very different things. (I also have some very close friends native to DF which I think will help a lot).

I've read a lot of the other forums and seen some answers that refer to these questions but since we all have different qualifications / experiences I thought I'd ask from my perspective. Thanks.[/i]

DF is my primary destination but I'm keeping an open mind and info like this is very useful. My MA is actually in Urban History (Urban Development in Europe), so vocationally it might not be as useful as say History or Art History but the prospect of teaching in a university sounds interesting.

Thank you, definately something to look into.
