|
|
Hi folks! I 've been looking for information on the permaanent residency visa because I've been here ten years nearly but I need ot know all of the documents I need. I looked on the MOFA site but couldn't find where the information is and I also used the search engine here but it is very frstrating becaues you can only look at one thread at a time and then have to do the whole search again and lots of the threads I looked at didn't really help but I did see a thread saying that the PR process is now different does anyone know what to do?
Thanks for the help!

ummmm.... you could try going to immigration (where you get your visa renewal aka permission for extension for period of stay) and asking.
here's debito. He doesn't say what forms you need, just that you need to fill out some forms, and he assumes that you are married.

Yes, I could do. My working schedule is Mon-Fri 8:00 - 16:00, whens the best time for me to go to immigration? The weekend perhaps?
I thouhgt that maybe some people here would have PR and know what I need so I aksed here. No harm in that I thought. Might even save me a trip to immigration
Anyway, thanks for the link I am not married but it might help a little.

Oh thanks for the links!
I looked at this page which has case studies of people who get PR:
Quote: |
Since the entry to Japan, the applicant has been engaged in English education for about 7 years as a full-time teacher, professor, etc. in universities in Japan. The immigration control authority finds it his contribution to improving the level of Japans higher education. (The applicant has stayed in Japan for 6 years and 9 months.)
|
Looks a bit like my case I hope I get it. |

So what you're saying is that PR isn't worth 2-3 hours of your time? |

And that although you've been in Japan for going on ten years, you didn't get a single day, or even half day, of summer vacation this year when you could have done it. |

I know one big issue (to get PR) is to have your alien card for the whole time. ???
I think its what the 10 years is based on??
so if you got a new (different) alien card you start again (I am not talking about updating) |

I just innocently asked a questoon. Yes I have been in Japan for nearly ten years but of course I didnt go to get all the documents for permanant residency in like my first year or second year. Who does such a thing?
I just said I dont have the right schedule for going to immigration right now and actually for your infromation I am planning ahead Do you know when I am going to apply for PR? Do you? Do you? No! You don't know that!
I just thought someone might say, "Sure I did it this year and I needed XY and Z" or "Here's a link that I found useful!" and, I dont know maybe even a "Good Luck Cool Teacher!" or something like that. Not a "ummm, yeah! Why don't you like go to immigration, ever thought of that?" kind of sarcastic response or "Oh, like 2 or three hours of your time isn't worth it right but you want us to do all the work for you?"

Oh dear! I wonder if that could cause a probelm because I did lose my gaijin card and have to get a new one.
Thanks for the info flyer... this is exactly the kind of useful information I would like. |

He's suggesting you could take unpaid time off (assuming you have no nenkyu you could use) for a couple of hours and go ask, but because you don't seem to be willing to do that (unless it somehow didn't even occur to you), that PR isn't worth it to you.

And I was suggesting that summer holiday just ended for most of us (and since you've been in Japan for going on ten years, you probably had some sort of summer holiday, or nenkyu that you could take), and so you could have gone at any time during that, but just didn't. |

You are not expected to have had the same gaijin card for the whole ten years- that is not even possible, since they are only valid for 5 or so years before they need renewal- check the date on yours. In any case, can you really imagine that Immigration would deny someone PR because they lost their gaijin card 8 years before and had to get a new one?
Length of stay in Japan is important. How long you have had your current gaijin card is not. |

I don't think the gaijin card thing is about having accidentally lost a gaijin card. I think if they use it, it would be because they want people to have been in Japan for ten solid years (other than vacations). They don't want people to show up, get a three year visa, leave after a year, get their pension back, a year later and get another job, and therefore three year visa and repeat the process. The idea (if they do this gaijin card thing) is that you turn your gaijin card in before you leave the country permanently or else you won't be eligible to get your pension back, and so if you ARE doing something like that, you will have a new gaijin card. So if you HAVE been in the country ten years and lost your card but got a new one, you could just show them your passport (and previous passport if you had to get yours renewed) as proof that you've been in the country that long. |

I could but my work id not near the immigration so it would mean taking a day off more likely. And I thought, hmmm maybe I could ask on the Cafe...

Okay my visa runs ou in May so I wasnt thinking so much about getting PR during the summer but now that I am back I gave some thought about my futeure and decided that I should get PR. So I could wait until December and go to immigration (I probably will) but I could also get prepared now and so I thought I would ask on the Cafe. Not unreasonable I thought!
But instead I get the Spanish Inquisition (I didn't expect that ) and seem to be told that I am wasting other peoples time and the great advice "Go to immigration last month!"
Anyway I didn't waste time because I got a very helpful PM form someone who told me some good advice...
Thanks to all who helped (yes Mr GambatteBIngBangBOOM, I think you were helpful too - I didn't mean to snap!)
