Hi, all - this has been an interesting site to read through and am considering the possibility of working in Egypt now. But I do have a couple of questions:

1. Does age matter? I have a B.S. in El.Ed., a teaching license, am currently completing a graduate level TESOL certificate program at an American university, and have had past experience as a Teacher's Aide and substitute - BUT I'm in my mid-50's. Will this affect my chances in getting an ESL job? I'd prefer working with children, but am flexible.

2. I won't be ready to work until after the first of the year - Feb. or March - how does that affect my chances?

Thank you so much for any information!

Probably the biggest problem is your timing and not your age. Laughing The school year there matches the one in the US, so you would miss a mid-year start. Be sure to read the sticky at the top of this page which describes life at a rather typical "international school."

One option for you is to attend one of these hiring fairs: http://www.iss.edu/edustaff/irc.asp

It will let you see what is available around the world for certified teachers. Of course, they are mostly hiring for the next academic year. But these are also a great place to network with other teachers. There is also the TESOL convention in March, but again their job fair will be focused on the next August/September.
