|

Hi, all - this has been an interesting site to read through and am considering the possibility of working in Egypt now. But I do have a couple of questions:
1. Does age matter? I have a B.S. in El.Ed., a teaching license, am currently completing a graduate level TESOL certificate program at an American university, and have had past experience as a Teacher's Aide and substitute - BUT I'm in my mid-50's. Will this affect my chances in getting an ESL job? I'd prefer working with children, but am flexible.
2. I won't be ready to work until after the first of the year - Feb. or March - how does that affect my chances?
Thank you so much for any information! |

Probably the biggest problem is your timing and not your age. The school year there matches the one in the US, so you would miss a mid-year start. Be sure to read the sticky at the top of this page which describes life at a rather typical "international school."
One option for you is to attend one of these hiring fairs: http://www.iss.edu/edustaff/irc.asp
It will let you see what is available around the world for certified teachers. Of course, they are mostly hiring for the next academic year. But these are also a great place to network with other teachers. There is also the TESOL convention in March, but again their job fair will be focused on the next August/September.
