Hiya,
I know alot has been said in this forum about Bell and ORD unethical behaviour.
However, has anyone accepted jobs for the KSU Preparatory Year Programme starting in October '09? |

I had an offer two summers ago. I have dual citizenship and they asked me to fly out with an American passport which I wasn�t going to after seen two women stuck in Brunei for 4 months on behalf on Prince Jeffy (the Sultan�s bro) with no passport - it has been published all over, including TIME magazine, you can check.
For me personally more convenient to travel with a European passport now wherever I go.
Their response time not very quick and very hard to get the same person I talked to again as to not repeat the same story all over again.
It may work for you ! |

I'm sorry to hear about that. There is alot of exploitation and harsh working conditions in the region, you have to be careful with who your going with.
I'm lucky to have spoken to a teacher who's going back there for his 2nd year with Bell. He's full of praise and hasnt encountered any problems. From my dealings with them, they are efficient, based in my country of residence so its easy to talk to them and I have one point of contact. I think things have moved on since your encounter...

Sorry... this doesn't make sense to me. You don't want to use your US passport because two women couldn't get out of Brunei because they had no passport?
What possible difference could entering Saudi with either of your passports have to do with this story. If an employer holds your passport, he would hold either one you use. And you still can't get out without an exit visa.

I�m sorry you misunderstood VS. The point being I wasn�t working in Brunei, my ex-husband was but two American (one Miss America) girls were stuck there and I am not taking any chances with a US passport if I can avoid it anywhere, for as much as I like the country and have lots of family and friends there I think 25 or 27 countries (as the European Union passport now states) can have more say in case of need, if you know what I mean ...........

| It varies by consulate to consulate but there is a hierarchy of helplfulness for different countries diplomatic services and the US is near the bottom. New Zealand is apparently near the top. |

Oh yeah... I remember that story. Those two idiotic women. It was their cluelessness and ignorance (and greed) that got them into their problem and it had nothing to do with the country of their passport. They would have been in the same situation with a British or EU or Russian or Mexican passport.
So, don't use this example to affect your decision on which passport to use. I'd use the one that smooths the path to the job most. In Saudi, a US passport would very likely be the best choice with certain employers. In other countries or other employers, another may be better...

and the situation is disastrous. Last year we thought it couldn't get any worse but it is. We don't even have premises, less managerial staff than last year, less teachers (although a supposed smaller ratio of teachers/students), many teachers haven't returned without advising them so they are still recruiting.
Things on the mens campus are going well. All males are being given housing allowance or should I re-phrase that. All males have to get out of the provided accommodation and find their own accommodation and, of course, being given housing allowance. The campus is new, a lot more managerial staff than last year (also supposedly dealing with issues from the women's side) and curriculum planning is underway.
Any particular questions you would like answered? If I can I will but remember we (the women) are treated like mushrooms  |

KSU is ruining its reputation with Bell / Obeikan. Let's hope that KSU realise they've made a huge mistake to associate with these jerks before it's too late.
I think you will find the biggest issues are arising from KSU's inefficiencies. At this stage we have no premises. After divorcing PNU they 'began' building their own Female Prep Premises. Students are due to arrive 5 October but the building is still at foundation level AND it's Ramadan. It was also KSU who advised there woud be 2,000 students and now it appears there are many more. It was also KSU who changed the criteris for teachers AFTER they had been given signed contracts AND its KSU who are belatedly cancelling appointments of supervisor positions.
Agreed other challenges arise from Bell and Obeikan's unprofessionalism but the way I see it all three are equally at fault. |

It's a shame to hear all this, sounds like construction is far from complete with endless aggravation. Are the men's campus and univeristy resources much better? |

While I agree that KSU is to be blamed for the increasing number of students, Bell should know that this has happened before and is likely to happen this year too. The project manager should take this into account.
As for KSU not allowing people without degrees and qualifcations to teach their students, what is wrong with that ? Some could not even spell words correctly, and yet they were teaching IELTS students.
What about hiring female managers and coordinators with false degrees? Is that the fault of KSU too ? |

I�ve never heard of a place that hires people with fake degrees and if they do I don�t think I will like to work for them.
I have my diplomas and certificates from France, England, UK & Spain certified and notarized as original, and I do mispell some words sometimes when I am in a hurry or doing too many things at the same time - I�m woman I can multitask  |
