I'm planning on taking the CELTA in Playa Del Carmen in November and searching for a job afterwards. I'm working on getting my BA apostilled, but I am wondering about Crimina Background Checks. I've read that I should have one on hand for potential employers, but does that mean:
-the county I live in
-the state I live in
-an FBI background check
?
Also, I assume that will need to be apostilled in the district I'm ordering it from. Yikes. Does anybody know if this part is necessary and if there are any other important documents I should have?
Also, what kind of Visa will in enter Mexico with if I am taking the CELTA course? Will my job afterwards arrange for a work visa?
Any other hints for avoiding beaurocratic hell would be apprecaited! Thanks a lot! |

You don't need a criminal background check.
In Canada, where I'm from, a criminal background check is standard proceedure for volunteer work, perhaps paid work now, I'm not sure. I have the same job for 22 years before coming to Mexico. Anyway, when I wanted to do some volunteer work in Canada, I' had to go through the process and it was simply a matter of going to my local police station and requesting a criminal background check on myself. I think there was a small fee for the service. It was a painless process.
Your BA, after it's stamped needs to be translated into Spanish. You need a valid passport. I don't know what type of Visa you will need to attend school in Mexico. But, whatever Visa it is, it will need to be converted into an FM-3.
If you can get an FM-3 Independent on your own I suggest doing so because of the freedom it will give you. Here in Oaxaca those people I've met earning enough money to live well work for more than one school. |

I have never seen nor heard of a criminal background check for any school or immigration.
Not even when I worked teaching kids in colegios did they even ask for a background check or any letters of reference.
Welcome to Mexico |

I had to get a background check right before I came to Mexico.
I did it on-line. It was very simple. I had the results in hours. I simply forwarded the response email to the HR at the school. Here's the link if you are from the USA.

That's not a "real" background check.
The real deal is to have a criminal records check done by a local police agency. They have acces via the NCIC to all criminal records/warrants in the US and to Interpol records worldwide. |
