I know a couple of teachers who have worked there for a short time.
They said the owner is pleasant and easy to get on with, the students are really pleasant and motivated but the teaching facilities are awful.
Hot classrooms (air conditioner is too small for the space, never turned on beforehand to cool the rooms down), dirty and noisy.
Admin staff had an attitude problem. I got the impression that the teaching expectations were unrealistic; the students expected to be frenetically entertained and after 1 1/2 hours to be able to speak English fluently. The formal approach is not welcome; TPR is - for adults - as well.
I suspect they prefer young teachers - probably male.
Nobody reported problems with being paid.
Probably OK as a stop-gap. |

I did a short stint there when it first opened as I was trying to get a job closer to my house. It was fine then, I thought the manager was great, he did point out that they were owned by a singaporean mob. I got paid on time and at not too bad of a rate. I think it was about $17 base and then more for teaching different level classes. I did negotiate the salary, and they did increase it after having to go back to check with the head honchos.
It was pretty modern inside, but that was bec it was new.
lucreziaborgia is right, it was pretty much entertaining, but i was cool with that so the classes were fine.
Moved on for a better offer. |

Thanks for the speedy replies guys - I'll play it by ear, the main thing is the prompt payment - not mercenary, but realistic. I have to get the job 1st - 38 yr old female, but we'll see.
Thanks alot! If I don't get the job I'll worry....... |

Have you tried Smartcom? I know it is looking for teachers all the time. Pays around $20 an hour, I believe. The new (and first DOS) seems to have changed the joint around. He's experienced and knows what he's doing. Problem is, Smartcom is miles away; about 10ks from Hoan Kiem.
I think Educare pays $20 an hour too.
The problem is with these schools is that they don't have enough hours and you spend your time travelling around Hanoi from job to job.
From what I've been told Educare and Smartcom pay on the dot. |

Thanks again for the update - the interview seemed to go well - as well as these things do anyway! They're letting me know either by Monday at the latest if in or not.
Thanks again

They've offered me the job - part-time - 12 hrs @$16 an hr or full-time 100 hrs a month @$1400 a month. My flight home is May (though this may be changeable dependaing circumstances). I've asked them to up it to $17 & $1500 - is this reasonable? I also asked how likely the 12 hrs would be more - I understand that they may only be able to guarantee the 12 hrs - I know I can't assume on more hours, but is it likely that there will be more?
Cheers all |

Ask for 20$ part time, and at least $1600 full time. You can easily get it elsewhere in the region.
Accepting a low rate of pay for part-time work may insure your regular hours on a scale, since they could easily give your hours to a lower paid teacher in the coming months. Evenso, demand a higher rate and always have another foot in the door of another job, jic. |
