Yes, my recruiter told me about the government visa. That is what he is trying to get for me and mu husband. It seems it does exist!

The biggest problem with "I've been told" and "my recruiter told me" is that one never knows whether either of these groups know what the heck they are talking about. Laughing Especially recruiters... they are (in)famous for telling you what they think you want to hear.

This is the only kind of "government visa" that I could find on the Washington, D. C. Saudi Embassy site:

"Government Visit Visa
Requirements:

A passport valid for at least six (6) months.
One (1) recent passport size color photograph with a white background; the photograph must be a full-face view in which the visa applicant is facing the camera directly. Side or angled views are NOT accepted.
A completed application form filled out with black ink or printed. Application forms can be downloaded from our website www.saudiembassy.net. Please include your email address on the application.
A reference note showing the number and date of the visa issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or its branches in Jeddah or Dammam.
For non-U.S. citizens, a copy of the green card or a document confirming legal residence in the U.S.
Notes:

Visitors should not overstay the time granted by the visa.
Business visas do not grant to the applicant the right to work or to reside in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Visitors to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia must abide by the countrys Islamic laws and regulations and respect its societys values and traditions.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabias laws against drug trafficking are strictly enforced. Violators are subject to severe punishment, which may include the death penalty."

Regards,
John[/u]

So true, so true. I'm learning this lesson well. The big bucks come with big con games and artists. I caught a Saudi Arabian agent in a lie just this week. I'm toying with him now to see if I can catch him in yet another lie before agreeing to anything. That will make two and I won't even have yet gotten an agreement letter signed. How's that for a first impression or starting off on the right foot?

I don't know about you guys, but if I discover I've been lied to, my morale plummets and recovers only to a stunted approximation of what it was, that is if it does recover. Something about a liar causes my gumption to wilt. Maybe it's because of the 10 Commandments or maybe the Golden Rule. I'm so naive when it comes to the Saudi Kingdom.

One is already ahead if one admits to this fact. The key is to keep asking questions and try to weigh the answers and sources. ...not easy...

And BTW... there is a definite cultural component to the definition of "a lie." Many cultures, Arabs among them, have the idea that it is better to tell people what they want to hear rather than hurt their feelings or upset them. It is a conflict avoidance technique that many find difficult to deal with...

There are land mines where you least expect them.

I suppose it is possible that this '6 month work visa' is a recent innovation, which is why it's not up on the embassy websites (which tend to be quite out of date) just yet.

If you do decide to pursue this offer, I would advise you to do two things. Firstly, get it in writing that this 'visa' will be converted into a proper work visa (with iqama) within 3 months. Secondly, do not part with a single penny in 'visa fees'. I'm not talking about the cost of the medical, administrative fees and degree notorisations which applicants normally pay themselves before being reimbursed by the sponsor upon arrival in KSA. But there is simply no way you should be paying hundreds of $ for a visa. No reputable employer would - or could, seing as it's illegal - ask you to do this. End of story.

I know I wouldn't pay one red cent for a visa. You'd be paying for the visa, a practice which is illegal, not mention it's a visa that is illegal for you to work on long-term. It's a 'visit' visa, not a work visa.
