I am moving to Surabaya to teach next month and I know things are going to be a bit tight on my salary. Do teachers have the opportunity to tutor part time? Do schools view this as a conflict of interest or is this an acceptable practice? Just wondering if there are opportunities to make some extra money.

My suggestion is to check your contract carefully. Yes, sometimes there are opportunities to earn extra money.BUT, it can cause big problems if it contravenes your contract stipulations.
One course of action is to negotiate with your employer to perhaps add an addendum to your contract, stating that you are allowed to accept work from other sources as long as it does not interfere with your duties for your main employer.
I've found it is best to be honest.
However, if you intend working part-time for your employer's direct opposition, this would be unacceptable, not just here but in most places.
Good luck, whatever happens.
