I'm Canadian and have a BA in Geography that was 3 years to complete. My boyfriend from the UK also has an undergraduate Uni degree in Marketing that was 3 years.

What is all this about a 4 year degree? My degree just says on it "BA in geography' not the length of the program.

What is the difference? Can I get my z visa and FEC without proving a '4 year degree'.

I also have an additional 1 year B-ED.. does that count as an extra year?

Why does not just any Bachelors suffice?

Any Bachelor's Degree is fine. US schools offer Associate's Degrees which are usually 2 year programs, and Bachelor's Degrees which are usually 4 (or more) year programs. Usually when someone references a 4 year degree, it's simply someone more familiar with the American education system referring to a BA/BS.

You can legal documents and jobs with ONLY a TEFL cert, or ONLY an AA, or ONLY a BA, or a combination of all 3. The point is you need *some* sort of cert/degree. Your employer needs to prove you're an expert in some capacity. BA is not mandatory.

Hell, there are people that get jobs with no degree or cert., but to be honest, your employer really has to pull some strings for that.

That B.Ed will help you get jobs that teachers with college diplomas unrelated to education can't always get.

Your Bachelor's suffices quite well, it's the same thing in a different package.

If you're planning to teach EFL for awhile I recommend you go for the PGDE, just one academic year and you can get the highest paying jobs in a variety of countries including China (especially Taiwan), Thailand, Vietnam, and the Middle East.
