I have an interview with JIS Secondary. Anyone willing to offer advice? Anything in particular to Brunei students that I should know about in terms of attitude, methodology, materials etc.?

Any predictions on 'difficult' questions?

PM me if you prefer but please offer any pearls you may have!
Many thanks Smile

People view a range of posts in various countries for which they have no response, just for interest's sake.

I am aware of that. I am also aware that there are quite a few Brunei workers out there who must have some insight into the difference between Brunei learners and others. Brunei teachers are normally quite helpful in their responses, for which I have been grateful. And thanks to those who have PM-ed regarding other issues - much appreciated.

First of all you need to bear in mind that JIS students are not typical Brunei students. It is a quite prestigious international school and the students are largely from well-off families. The fees are quite a bit higher than ISB. There are quite a few offspring of diplomats, royal family, Shell oil company workers, British army, also quite a few CFBT teachers kids as well as JIS teachers kids. The Bruneians there are not the average. Some have received scholarships to go there, others are from well-off families. Facilities are far better than government schools where CFBT teachers work. It is a completely different world. They have just broken ground on a multi-million dollar Arts centre. Kids will be generally well-motivated and nice to teach. There will be few if any discipline problems. You'll work hard for your money however. You should also bear in mind that not many JIS teachers read this forum, as they are mostly other-subject teachers. There is a small ESL dept and a larger mainstream English department. Anyway, good luck.
