I have a friend who teaches English in Bangkok. He has previously taught in Taiwan. The problem is that he is Russian.
He got a MA in education from a Russian university.
Is it possible for someone like him to get a job teaching English in Japan.
Or, could he find a job teaching Russian in Hokkaido for example?

thanks.

I think it is possible to find a job teaching English... Although I'm sure the opportunities are probably a lot less than for native speakers.

I recently met a Romanian girl here in Tokyo teaching English. She had been to university in England and Aomori. Aside from a slight accent, she seemed to be an excellent teacher.

Hi,
Your friend should be able to get a job teaching here, no problem, especially with an MA.
I have met people here from all over the world here, hanging out, teaching.
It seems to be more open than Taiwan, even, when it comes to who can get work. (In Taiwan, you have people there without BA degrees, but they were generally native speakers. Here it seems like anything goes, as long as you can secure your own visa status. You do not have to be a native speaker.)
Cheers!
