My Uni is currently promoting the JET scheme. For some reason, JET never crossed my mind. So, is it still a good option? Would appreciate any feedback from people who've done the scheme. Did it help your career? How was the work. Was it demanding? Were you able to save any money?

I'd check these forums out...

It pays higher than other ALT jobs, but for the most part, you'll probably get ESID a lot, as it varies. Every Situation Is Different. Some have a good experience with it, others may have a bad experience.

Many JET ALTs complain of boredom between classes. Others make valuable use of their time.

It is practically the only gig that pays for your airfare, so in itself that is nice. A few other places might do it, but you usually end up working worse hours. You might get reimbursed for the airfare at the end of a year's stay with other places, too, so you'd have to wait it out.

JET has its pluses. Hours, usually low workload, good chance to practice/learn Japanese, strong support network, pair airfare (and sometimes subsidized or free rent). It also has its minuses, so I'd recommend visiting those links above and www.bigdaikon.com as well.

Will it help your career? Depends entirely on you and what that career is.

not always true!
I earn slightly more than a JET and I am a non JET ALT. But most JETs do earn more than ALTs

Must be a rarity. Most jobs I've come across pay about 250k/month, sometimes higher (about 270), sometimes lower (about 200). Seems I come across English teaching jobs that might pay about 300k.
