So I've read a fair number of posts saying that the non-chain schools in Russia tend to offer a better deal. My question is can anyone throw some names out there? So far I've only seen job postings for Wall St. and IH. Are any schools hiring still hiring for the fall or for a January start date? Thanks.

Thanks for the message Maruss. I can't PM people yet otherwise I would have responded to your message privately. I have one more question to throw out there. Given the current economy what do people think is a good salary for a teacher in Moscow these days? ...I'm certified, have a year's worth of teaching experience, good recs, non-ESL work experience and I speak decent Russian. Any ballpark estimates are appreciated. Thanks.

Non-Mac schools tend not to advertise. What you need to do is find the web sites of the schools and approach them. There are two methods: use the schools directory of Visarus.co.uk (if and when it is back online) or, maybe using translation software to help you, do searches for language schools in the towns you're interested in on search engines. There is nothing wrong with using Google, by the way, as long as you enter your search in cyrillic.

Use the job search boxes. Put teacher in the job box and Russia in the location box (don't put in a city, it doesn't work well with that). I've found quite a lot of jobs on this that I didn't see elsewhere.

Try also Linguistic Funland.

These are jobs, but I don't know how they measure in terms of bucks.

Search for Karl Kruhoffer and look at his excellent list of Russian language schools.

It's a while since I last took a look and it may be that his list could be a little out of date - however he lists schools and their contact details by city.

Near the top of the page - see that big red and yellow sign that says "Dave's esl cafe" ?
Just to the right see some nice blue clickable things ?
Top line, first word is FAQ.
Next to that is another word that says "search" - click it and type "Karl Kruhoffer"

Then look on the umpty hundred posts that Karl made for something like "Karl's list of schools in Russia".
