As a noob, I am curious if it is acceptable to attempt a negotiation on a contract? I have a current offer of 12,000 on the table with 25% housing allowance and medical, etc. I am thinking of taking the offer, but if I can negotiate I might as well try (I think).

But my question remains (and I would rather come off here as a noob than an arrogant pr!ck to my potential employer).

So, how about it? Is negotiating contract acceptable or a common practice with Saudi schools?

btw. My background is, I have an MBA and an MATESL, but only one year teaching experience at a uni in the States.

This offer seems reasonable - though not fantastic - and we'd need to know more of the details to give an informed opinion.

Questions regarding contract negotiation come up quite often. The answer is - can't hurt to try, but it may not lead to anything. You do sometimes hear stories of people having offers instantly raised by a substantial amount just by asking nicely. Other employers have a 'take it or leave it' attitude. If you are dealing with a recruiter, it's far more likely to be the latter.

My experience is that employers in Saudi in the EFL field do not negotiate. They make an offer and it is take it or leave it.

Given your qualifications annd experience I would dsy thisd offer is okay.
