Anybody know anything about CIEO-Canadian International Educational Organization. They have schools in guandong, mainly guanzhou, Shenzen, Dongguan pre-fectures. I have been offered a post with them. With mention of career-development.
If you have worked with them i would like to hear from you and any info on living and working in these areas also welcome. |

>8000 RMB/mo for this?: http://www.cieo.com.cn/en/JOBDETAILS.asp
Job Responsibilities
CIEO positions require a total of 23-25 teaching hours per week, plus 5-12 hours (dollars to donuts it'll be the full 12) of additional weekly activities. You may (will) also occasionally be asked to join in special celebrations and/or promotional activities, and training events.
Contract Benefits:
1、Monthly, before tax, salary of 8000 RMB within the contracted period (30 days/month). So, you will net 7645 RMB/mo. If you max out the above hours, you are working for 50 RMB/hr. Hahahaha.
2、The first two months is a probation period, after the probation period, monthly salary of 8000RMB. What do you get for the first two months?
3、 Upon completion of contract, a yearly travel bonus of 10000 Chinese RMB (Before tax). I see you are responsible for your own flight over and there's no mention anywhere on the site about reimbursement. Sooooo...the 10K is not really a bonus at all.
4、 Residence permits and visa expenses are 50% covered (Maximum RMB 800). THEY want you to work for THEM...should be 100% covered.
5、 Accommodation is arranged for every teacher with complete free facilities (phone, air conditioner, stove, refrigerator, water heater, etc.); all utilities bills and rent will be covered by teachers. And you have to pay accomodation costs? Hahahahahaha.
Additional Benefits:
1. Full time 24 hours support.
2. Official letter of invitation and sponsorship for visas and permits. They are doing what they are required by law to do...what a benefit!
3. Pick-up at Guangzhou airport. Awfully kind of them!
I think that these guys are just another slick recruiter and the "career development" is the experience you gain immediately after realizing that you've agreed to be an indentured servant.
Cheers! |

I had a friend who worked for them, the number of "fines" in the contract is a big issue including losing a certain amount PER MINUTE if you are late to class. They seem to work their teachers pretty hard and dangle this "career progression" carrot to them all the time. |

Thanks for the info Rob. I was wondering if those clauses were just to cover their backs, but in reality they didn't actually refer to them unless you took the piss... I guess not!
Anyone else got anything on these guys??? |

There is also a clause in the contract about parents complaining against you, I think anyone here who has taught in a private training school knows you ALWAYS get complaints no matter what. Whether they do enforce the fines or not you have to ask yourself a question about the mindset of the people who wrote that. |

I quickly looked through the web site of CIEO and I saw right away that you are paying for your own apartment and utilities. Red flags!! I would be lining up to lease my own apartment in China where you do not fully know the ways of the culture. Any decedent school should be supplying you with a furnished apartment. I would not want to think of what else this school will get you to do. I would pass on CIEO. |

I would agree. This contract is designed to catch out the inexperienced and the unwary. Don't bother taking it. Find something else where "benefits" mean exactly that. |

if the contract contains the clauses that are alleged in this thread, then noone should work for this place. such a contract is a recipe for disaster. anyone who communicates with them should tell them as much as well, and you should also tell them you're going to tell everyone you know their contract sucks just so they wont get anyone. |

Hi Ukdiz
No i never took the contract. Looking around i can see better offers. Also i am stuck in the wasteland of Gt Britain known as the West Midlands so was feeling kind of desperate. I am still there now!
Have been to China before and would not mind returning sometime.

I was recently offered a job by them for 9500/month. Although it was only 8500 for the first two month probationary period. You also have to meet all of their requirements to get the full 9500/month which includes such things as being present and on time, following instructions, having no children injured, and having no complaints from parents. According to the contract you teach 18 hours a week, but you have to be there an additional 7 for meetings, office hours, or filling in for other teachers. That doesn't include lesson planning. It does say you have to be "flexible" though. They reimburse 20% of the airfare within two weeks of employment, 30% more after 6 months, and 100% after 1 year. They say an apartment is provided, but it doesn't say who pays for it. From the sounds of it that would probably be me. So overall doesn't too great, and after reading the posts here I will reject it. I just wanted to take the time to update the thread and let people know. |

I seriously doubt anyone ever meets all their requirements.
Just one made-up complaint by one parent.... and you never get the full 9500. |
