Unfortunately, there appears to be little, if any, concensus regarding this.
When you look around the world and see the results of differing interpretations of 'how it is supposed to be practiced' (as you put it), you realize how much they vary; from one extreme to the other; warmongering ('death to America', burning of flags, blood-curdling threats of assassination) on the one side and peaceful diplomatic discussions and debates on the other.
What's more, the Quran, with all its abrogations, can hardly be relied upon to provide clear guidance as to 'how it is supposed to be practiced'.
If the book were allowed to be structured according to the sequence in which revelations were made, at least then we can work out clearly which parts have been abrogated and which still stand. That aside, though, people would still struggle to agree on 'how it is supposed to be practiced'.
Best

Dear basiltherat,
Well, that should get this thread locked. But before it is, I wonder if there would be any difference in the truth you posted if "Christianity" were substituted for "Islam" and "the Bible" were inserted in place of "the Quran,"
Sorry, but I think that (almost) all religions can be taken to extremes (or taken over by extremists.)
Regards,
John |
