Anyone using it?
I heard there were some contractual problems between Turk Telekom and the other companies which have now been resolved.
If you are using it, how is it?

Hi!
I looked in to ADSL a few months ago. The modems were really expensive, about $450 and your local telephone exchange had to have lines that support it. I couldn't get it, but they did advise me that If I moved to the other side of the road I would be in the catchment area of a telephone exchange that could provide it.(??). A friend was telling me that some legal issues have been sorted now and that the modem company have managed to pay whoever they needed too pay to be able to start selling the modems again. I think the monthly charge after you buy the modem is around 160 million. Which doesn't really make it worth getting for a normal home user. |

Hi Yoda,
Thanks for the info.
The prices (TL) for ADSL are as follows:
Speed -- Start up -- Monthly
128/32 49.000.000 49.000.000
256/64 69.000.000 69.000.000
512/128 109.000.000 109.000.000
1024/256 249.000.000 249.000.000
2048/512 465.000.000 465.000.000
I think the modems are now about $100-150.
I'm hoping that the 256/64 would give a better performance than my 56k dial-up, it should in theory, but this being Turkey you can never tell! If anyone is using one and can compare it, I'd be grateful for the info before I take the plunge.
Cheers,
Mike |
