| I'm an experienced ESL teacher with an MA in applied linguistics. Is it practical to just show up and look for work in Indonesia? I assume that a big city like Jakarta is the place to look, what is considered a decent wage there? . |

There are a lot of jobs here - but the problem is that the gov't reduced the previous 60 day visitor visa to only 30 days. That's not much time to find work in an unfamiliar city if you don't speak the local language.
What I would recommend is that you line up a job ahead of time at a school, come work here, and keep your eyes open for any better opportunities.
Anything over about 8 million Rp (about $1200 US) is a good salary. |

If ya got an MA and you are a profshonl teacher better call the internal schools pay starting at 1,700us-2,000+++benefits. Try: http://www.expat.or.id/orgs/plusschools.html
Jakarta has lots to do but it takes forver to get anywhere, under 10mil better live in a small towen you will enjoy it. |
